The beginnings of the Belgian Watercolour Society can be traced back to 1978 with the formation of the Campine Society of Painters in Water Colours. These founding fathers were like minded enthousiastic watercolourists who lived in Mol, a small city in the northern part of Belgium. The society has now nearly 200 members from Belgium, the Netherlands and even Germany. It organizes workshops, seminars and annual exhibitions. The exhibitions are limited to the work of members only but special guest painters with international acclaim can be invited. The 23 members whose work has been exhibited at seven annual juried exhibitions are classified as Signature Members. The ECWS has been founded on the initiative of AIB and the Italian AIA on Mar ch 14, 1998.
